City Square will be hosting the first IRT Tier 5 Pro Stop of the year in the State of  Arizona.   Ben Simons and Michael Franks will be the tournament directors for the event.   If you have missed the previous three events for the 2011-12 season then you missed some of the great racquetball players to play the sport come to the valley and competed with our best players in the state.   This event will be no different.    Great Prize money for the top divisions and great prizes for all other divisions.   As always the tournament directors always has a great setup for hospitality, so be sure to bring your appetite.

It’s time to call up that one person you call “Partner, Friend or Court-mate” and get ready for some the best competition not only the state can offer but in the nation.   That is right it is the 2012 National Doubles Championships hosted right here in Tempe, Arizona.  If you have played in this event you know the fierce competition.   For those who has never played in this event, then this is the Doubles of Doubles event.   Not only will there be all levels of competition but some of the best racquetballer from across the country come out to qualify for the National Racquetball team.

Well the tournament is locked but we have a great turnout to the first tournament of the 2012 year!! We have an exciting group of people that will be playing in this tournament, so why don’t you come out and support your Arizona racquetball players and team. We have over 100+ participants for this weekend so we will have continuous racquetball throughout the weekend, starting on Friday night all the way through Sunday. So forget about the NFL Playoffs, come watch some serious racquetball played at it’s highest level. Remember National Doubles is coming next month (in less than 3 weeks away), this will be a great tournament to not only fine tune your game but also practice your cheering spirits!!!!

It’s back and what a great way to start the 2012, play a racquetball tournament!!!  Dust off the holiday dust from those racquets and lace up the shoes as we get ready for another great season of Racquetball.   This tournament will be hosted at the ASU Student Recreation Center.    This will be a great tune up for those who will be competing in the 45th USAR National Doubles Racquetball Championships held at the same location in the month of February.

Start times are now available for the Splat IRT Tier 5 pro stop at ASU.   We will be having some of the best players from around the state of Arizona participating in the 3rd series of the IRT Tier 5 in Arizona.  Also coming back to the state is Jimmy Lowe.  Everyone saw him pretty much eliminated the field in September, will anyone be able to stop him this time?  We have an exciting doubles matchup for this weekend.   Don’t miss out as the excitement will start on Friday night at ASU Student Recreation Center.  For more information on the tournament click on the following links.

The Mercedes Benz Tournament is now closed to any entries.  To those who missed getting into the tournament, you can still watch the event.  Thousands of dollars will be given away for all divisions.   This will feature some of the top players not only from the state of Arizona but also from the IRT Pro Tour.   If you like to see more information about the tournament, click on MERCEDES HOLIDAY RACQUETBALL CLASSIC.

We have two great tournaments for the month of December.  Everyone knows about the Holiday Splat Classic….who doesn’t right?  Well it is back and as an IRT Tier 5 Pro Stop.  Come out and compete against some of the best players at all levels.  The Pro level will be the most competitive event on stage.   Best 3 out of 5 games to 11 (win by 2 and two serves).  For those who have never played in a tournament this is a great tournament to start.   There will be some great prize money as well trophies.   For more information about the event click on 2011 Holiday Splat Classic Event
We also have another great event, the 1st Annual Phoenix Motor Company Mercedes Benz Holiday Racquetball Tournament at the Village Racquet and Health Club located at 44th street and Camelback.  Due to the facility only having 3 racquetball courts, this event is limited to 77 entries.  Prize money will be available to 1st and 2nd place in EVERY division offered!!!  The rumor has it….. some major players are planning on coming to the event from other states…don’t be the one that is left out of the event!!    For more information about the event, click on 2011 Mercedes Benz Racquetball Tournament.

These are some of the small things that stand out as to why all of us play the game of racquetball.   Some of us care so much about the game because of the people who are involved with the sport.   The racquetball world may be a small community but it is also a community with great sportsmanship is not only shown on the court but also off the court.
I hope everyone who reads this article to give a big applause to those who not only comfort Roberto’s safety but also made him feel that we care about everyone who plays the game!!!

One of our own juniors, Trevor Deason, will be part of an experience every high school athlete dreams of playing in, a high school football State Championship.   Trevor Deason and Joy Christian High School football team will be competing against Joseph City this Saturday November 12th, 2011.  While Joy Christian is going for their first Football Championship, Joseph City is going for their 6th title.   After talking with the Head Coach from Joy Christian, Brian Cole, he not only spoke good things about Trevor but he did mention Trevor has become a valuable athlete for their football program.   The Championship game will present two undefeated teams that have very different style of play.    One of the big attributes for Joy Christian is their passing attack, while Joseph City loves to run the ball.    The game will come down to who makes the least mistakes.

If you are interested in watching the game, there are two ways.   The Championship game will be played at Bradshaw Mountian High School located in Prescott Valley.    AIA365.com will also be telecast the game live via web.   Game time starts at 4pm.

Getting the crown back!!!

The atmosphere on Sunday morning was starting out slow as some of the people were mentioning how much fun they had at the party the night before.   Some of the players that had matches early in the morning were wondering, should I have taken that last drink or stayed up with my fellow partner.   Bottom line, the shoe laces got strapped, proper medication/remedy were taken and most of all the game faces definitely showed up on Sunday.   The team that regained their title was none other than the Conway/Stalder team.  Last year they were defeated in the finals and were looking to rebound to take the title back home.   Conway/Stalder cruised easily to the finals where they were finally taken to the tie-breaker but managed to pull out the victory 11-7 in a very close battle in the finals.  Congrats to their second Men’s Open Championship!!!  The biggest surprise of the tournament was first time tournament team, Ben Simons and Rick Wagner.  None of which are unfamiliar with playing in the finals or uncommon grounds of competing at the highest level but never on the same team.  The first time duo managed to get to the finals of two events, Men’s Open and Men’s aged.  While they were unsuccessful in being crowned champion, they did manage to give both of their matches a great very tough battle.   In other events Mixed Doubles both Open and A division had some battles going on.   Tommy Medina and Darlene Olich repeated as Champions and Ozzy Urias and Lynn Lopez won the Mixed A division.  Women’s Open crowned Darlene Olich and Sue Hendricks as Arizona State Champions.

While the economy may have taken down some of the numbers, the fierce competition and high level of racquetball will be taking place this weekend at Tucson Racquet & Fitness Club starting today.  Who will be crowned champion this year.  Will Jason Conway and Charlie regain their title after losing it by a close match last year?  Or will it be a new team to be crowned Champion this year?   Follow the draw as we have some really great competition in this year’s event.   All guests are welcome to watch the event and if you can not come out to the event be sure to follow the event through 2011 State Double Drawsheet or follow the event through our Twitter Account.

It will be a very exiting event with great food, spirits and lots of raffle prizes to give away.   Come join the fun for the Saturday BBQ by the pool side.  Weather may be a bit chilly, but the atmosphere will be fired up and ready to rock this year event!! Don’t miss out!!!

It’s that time again to dust off those racquets and connect with your long lost friend that you call “PARTNER!”  It is the 2011 Arizona State Doubles Championships.   The tournament will be held in Tucson Racquet and Fitness Club.    You only have a few days left to enter, so don’t miss out on the best tournament one team can imagine on having!   For those who went last year, all of us enjoyed a great time throughout the weekend.  Great food, venue and most of all environment of competition including sportsmanship was impeccable!!!   For more information or places to stay near the facility, please check the STATE DOUBLES R2 website.
